Sometimes the sherpas that go back and forth rigging the ropes and ladders will through bodies into a nearby crevasse if it is easy to do so.

WTF eats the bodies??

Birds. Sometimes they cover up the bodies with rocks so birds don't eat them, if they can reach them.

In some societies the most honorable form of burial is for the corpse to be left to be eaten by birds.

I don't think there are any birds at >25,000 feet on mounains though.

Tissue decay would be a result of

- sun (heating day, cooling night)
- wind

that is enough over long enough.

eventually the bones will be gone too by the same process

what's fucked up is people pay up to 60k to summit, and at times, there are climbers dying in the snow on the ascent but people will just pass them by without stopping to help.

it's pretty common.

I cannot stand any wiki article relating to India in any way. They are always so badly worded and pompous.

I try to do a fourteener or two a year, and it kicks my ass. You have to experience what the elevation does to your body to believe it (and I live at 6000').

Mt Everest is more than 29,000 feet.

Everybody knows that you might die there, that's part of the allure. If people were responsible for the welfare of every yuppie living their dream but having trouble, nobody would ever get to the top again.

Consider These assholes and their Personal Locator Beacons:

If people had an inkling that there was some kind of rescue when they're tired or uncomfortable, they'd take the easy road 169% of the time.

Yes, people are stupid, but i'm not jaded enough to think it's ok to just do nothing while they lay there to die. I wouldn't have that on my conscious.

The reality is that there is no aide you could give them without endangering yourself. Unwillingness to stay focused on the ascent would knock you out of any guide's group.

They consciously chose to do something where they knew they might die, and they failed. This isn't walking through a mall and seeing somebody clutching their chest where we (well, some of us) would help- this is somebody who kept going knowing that this is the result, and you're doing the same.

If you can walk up stairs you can climb Mount Everest. Same thing really; Sherpas have pretty much made a foolproof path that anyone can walk up.

Just send a chopper up there to rescue them. Or a snowmobile.

i don't believe that at all, there are many instances where aid could mean all the difference.

also, any guide who's so removed from humanity that he would pass by a person in need, isn't worth the air he's breathing anyhow.
